Defensive stars dominate
BLACKFOOT --It came down to two big plays in the annual football all-star game between the Fifth and Sixth districts on Friday at Blackfoot High School.
The northern team made both of them on its way to a 16-0 win over the southern team.
Defenses clearly had the upper hand and neither team was loosening its grip.

Late in the second quarter , Asay curled to catch a pass from Salmon quarterback Riley Sessions at the Fifth District's 30-yard line. It wasn't the catch, which picked up a couple of yards, that made the play, it was what he did with the ball after the catch.
"I saw an open lane and kept dodging people," said Berger, who was also named the Sixth District's Most Valuable Player.
Skyline coach Scott Berger , Michael's father and the coach of the Sixth District team, had some choice words about the game and his son's pick.
"He's always been an offensive guy, but he has skills on defense," Scott said.

"We had a couple of big plays and that's the way it bounces some times," he said.
Asay's touchdown was not the first big move to come from the northern team. That came from his teammate, Skyline's Michael Berger, who plays both quarterback and defensive back.
When the Fifth District was deep in its own territory late in the first quarter, Berger stepped in front of a pass by Pocatello's Tyler Hargraves.
"I read it all the way," he said. "I was on top Miu Miu Shoes of it."
Once he had the ball, Berger was gone down the sideline and into the end zone. The Sixth District converted both two-point conversions.
With two defenders closing, Asay put together a combination of moves that had both Fifth District players grasping at air. From there it was clear sailing to the end zone.
"All I could think was I had to get around them and get that touchdown," he said. "Once they went down, it was wide open."
The 5-foot-9 , 165-pounder said the moves he showed on Friday are pretty much typical.
"That's what I have to do," he said. "I'm not a power back."
